If you like sport and you’re spending some time in Glasgow, you’re probably looking to find things to do in Glasgow which are a little more energetic than just shopping. We’ve put together a few ideas which we hope will save you the time of doing all the searching yourself. That way you can focus on your chosen sport and spend less time on finding a venue.
For those of you who love sport but perhaps aren’t quite ready to do anything too energetic, why not try a visit to The Scottish Football Museum where you can take a long impressive look at Scotland’s football heritage. This is one of Glasgow’s main attractions and holds an impressive national collection of football memorabilia, so it’s well worth a visit.
Fancy yourself as a cyclist? Then how about The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome where everyone can have a go cycling and have a ride on the track itself. There’s a new rider’s area for those who are novice riders and there’s advice and guidance on how the sessions work.
There are plenty of swimming pools in Glasgow if that’s your thing, and you certainly won’t be short of places to go to find a pool. Swimming is one of the best ways of getting a full cardiovascular workout so it’s great for both adults and children.
The Tollcross International Swimming Centre at the east end of the city hosted the Commonwealth games swimming contest back in 2014. A swim there may help you to feel Olympic enough to beat your own record in the breast stroke, but if you’re not feeling competitive, then a leisurely swim is just as good.
How about a game of rugby 7? This is a high-octane game of rugby with plenty of fast running and point scoring involved. You can watch at leisure without getting into a sweat yourself though. You can get a piece of the action anywhere there’s a rugby pitch in Glasgow.
Athletics is always good to watch. There are plenty of parks with athletic clubs available with visitors being allowed to test their own fitness at one of them. There’s also a 5k run available to take part in at Pollok Country Park, which isn’t far from the city centre.
Table Tennis – You can practice your table tennis skills at the Glasgow Club or Emirates Arena or how about the Hillhead Book Club where you can practice in a specially built cage. You certainly won’t lose your ball in there!
Bowling is always a great favourite and you can play at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre, where you’ll find not one but five bowling greens which have been recently upgraded to international standard. You can use them free of charge and you don’t even have to book beforehand.
Escape Glasgow - Perhaps the weather is bad when you leave the house or hotel, but don’t despair because you can pay us a visit here at Escape Glasgow. Here you and some friends can get locked in a room and fight your way out using a series of cryptic clues and puzzles with 60 minutes to get out. You’ll need to rely on some pretty keen observational and problem-solving skills which will be the only two things to get you out. It’s a great way of spending a rainy afternoon with those you love the most, so if you’re up for it, and sports out for the day – we’d love to see you.
