Things To Do In Glasgow On A Rainy Day

Glasgow’s a great city, even when it’s raining, so why not come down and visit this fascinating place. We’ve found plenty of things you can do while you’re here, things you’ll really enjoy, so don’t let the rain put you off when you visit. There’ll be plenty of ways you can make the most of your time here.

How About a Quick Visit To Glasgow Cathedral?

You’ll be able to spend as much time as you need to while you’re here and there is so much architecture to admire and enjoy. Not far from here there’s the Provand’s Lordship, which is the oldest house in Glasgow and dates back to the 15th century. You can then perhaps visit St Mongo Museum of Religious Life and Art which will take a look at religion (of course!) and how it has played such an important role through the centuries. There’s a café so you can have something to eat once you’ve had a look around.

People’s Palace – This Is The Perfect Place

It has so much history and offers a glimpse of what life would have been like in the 18th and 19th centuries. Only the museum is open at this time of year, the Winter Gardens are normally closed during the colder months. There’s a magnificent Doulton Fountain outside and it is the biggest Terracotta fountain in the world, built almost at the end of the 19th century for the Queen’s Jubilee.

The Lighthouse

This has an enormous amount of space, 5 floors of exhibitions in all, and it’s definitely the place to visit. It’s in the city centre and you’ll never be stuck for things to do. The Mackintosh Centre is especially impressive.

The Science Centre

This is a rather beautifully shaped building that isn’t too far from the Riverside Museum (another must see visit). It’s all about science hence the title, but it also presents different ideas of science, while exploring technology in a really simple yet intelligent way. There’s even a cinema, an IMAX where you can watch the latest films, and then there’s at least 3 floors of science exhibits and after you’re done with that, you can go visit the Planetarium. When you need some refreshment, you can visit the outdoor and indoor café.
